GoForth Electric CarShare, a collaborative partnership between Forth, Mobility Development, and community-owned utilities is expanding its service area in the Columbia River Gorge.
What is GoForth?
The car-sharing pilot program provides affordable access to all-electric cars to test drive and use for errands, shopping or appointments. Currently, GoForth has several locations throughout Oregon and Washington, including The Dalles, OR which has had a carshare program in operation since 2022.
How does GoForth work?
To use the service and book a GoForth vehicle, anyone over 21 years of age with a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and a valid credit, debit or bank card can download the Miocar Networks App from the App Store or Google Play, or go to the Miocar website. After registering their account and having an orientation with a GoForth staff member, they can view where cars are located, reserve the vehicle through the app for a time they’d like to use it, unlock the vehicle with the app, and return it to the same parking spot after their trip. After the initial approval process, which can take 3-5 business days, members will have access to all vehicles in the GoForth network.

Why an Electric Vehicle?
According to a recent release by Forth, carsharing is an efficient alternative to owning a vehicle, and drivers who use a carsharing system can access a car without paying the high costs of ownership, including repairs and insurance. The organization promotes electric carsharing benefits for the environment and public health, noting that EVs are oil-free, produce no smog, and produce 85% fewer carbon emissions than traditional cars.
The first four-hour ride with GoForth is free, and recurring rentals rates start at $4 per hour or $35 per day with the first 150 miles included (plus applicable tax). After that, the cost will be 35 cents per additional mile. The vehicle is equipped with BreezeBy. When fully charged, the vehicles have a range of approximately 250 miles. Cars can be rented for a maximum of 24 hours, although longer reservations are considered on a case-by-case basis depending on other reservations and community needs.

Reminders: No smoking in car ● Pets must be transported inside a carrier, cage, or kennel.

EV Charging Station The GoForth vehicles each have a dedicated parking space and charging station. In Bingen, the location is next to Daubenspeck Park at 400 W Steuben Street, and in White Salmon, at 119 NE Church Avenue. Both sites also include additional electric vehicle charging stations (1 in Bingen, 3 in White Salmon) available at 30 cents/ kWh.
Funding The majority of funding for the GoForth pilot program expansion in Bingen and White Salmon comes from the Washington Department of Transportation “ZAP” grant, a Zero-emissions Access Program grant, which provides funding for non-profit and government organizations in Washington. The Bingen/White Salmon GoForth CarShare pilot program is funded through June 2025. At the end of the grant period, the cities will own the EV charging stations and re-evaluate the carshare program to see if it is sustainable.
